More than half of German companies use AI
According to an Ifo study, more than 50% of German companies use artificial intelligence to optimize routine tasks.
A current study by the Ifo Institute shows that more than half of German companies have integrated Artificial Intelligence (AI) into their operations. This development highlights the growing influence of AI technologies on the German economy. Companies primarily use AI to automate routine tasks and increase efficiency.
Growing Acceptance of AI in Business
The Ifo Institute's survey, conducted in 2026, found that 54 percent of the surveyed companies use AI technologies. This represents a significant increase compared to previous years. In particular, AI is increasingly used in the areas of production, logistics, and customer service to optimize processes and reduce costs.
One reason for the growing acceptance of AI is the necessity to remain competitive. Companies face increasing pressure to enhance their efficiency while simultaneously improving the quality of their products and services. AI offers a solution by taking over repetitive tasks and relieving human employees.
Impact on the Workforce
The integration of AI into companies also affects the workforce. While some routine jobs are replaced by AI, new jobs are simultaneously created that require specific skills in dealing with AI. Companies are increasingly investing in training programs to prepare their employees for the new technologies and ensure they acquire the necessary competencies.
The study shows that particularly smaller companies are more hesitant to adopt AI. Many of these firms do not have the resources to invest in expensive technologies or provide the necessary training. Nevertheless, they also recognize the benefits that AI can bring and are looking for ways to gradually implement these technologies.
The challenges associated with the introduction of AI are diverse. Data protection and ethical issues are at the forefront, as companies must ensure that they respect their customers' privacy while also complying with legal requirements. These aspects are particularly important, as consumer trust in the technology is crucial for its acceptance.
The Ifo study highlights that companies that successfully implement AI often also exhibit higher innovative strength. These firms are able to respond more quickly to market changes and develop new products or services. This leads to a more dynamic economy that continuously adapts to consumer needs.
The results of the study clarify that the use of AI in Germany is on the rise. More than half of the companies have already taken steps to integrate this technology into their daily operations. The ongoing digitalization and technological change will continue to shape the landscape of the German economy.
