Definition
Das Windows Imaging Format (WIM) ist Microsofts dateibasiertes Imaging-Format zur Bereitstellung und Sicherung von Windows-Installationen. WIM-Images können mehrere Editionen in einer Datei bündeln (z. B. Pro + Home + Education) und werden mit DISM, ImageX oder MDT bearbeitet. Eine Windows-Installations-ISO enthält intern eine install.wim (oder install.esd ab Windows 10).
Praxisbeispiel
Mit „dism /Mount-Wim /WimFile:install.wim /Index:6 /MountDir:C:\mount“ wird ein WIM-Image gemountet, um Treiber per /Add-Driver einzubinden.
